Maybe DNA has a double helix shape because oxygen has a

Geometric reasoning is used. Conservation of energy is

I doubt it very much. First, DNA is much, much larger than an atom.
Second, there are many, many molecules which contain oxygen and almost
none are helical. In any case, the NUCLEAR structure of oxygen is
orders of magnitude smaller than the electron shells which are
responsible for chemistry.
